An active year around-island

Just north of Marstrand you find the car free island of Dyrön. It’s one of the only six islands in the Tjörn municipality that has a year around population. Almost 600 people live here permanently, in the summer that population is greatly increased, as a multitude of boat and summer visitors arrive. As one of the few islands in the area, Dyrön offers an all-year-open ICA store with wine and spirits delivery, postal service, café and pizzeria.

In the summer, however, more businesses open their doors to thirsty, hungry and culturally interested guests. Among others, Gallery Bockeberget opens, with local and national artists exhibits. The island also has a pétanque- and tennis court, mini-golf, a soccer pitch, a playground and a small gymnasium with a workout gym. The hiking trail with spectacular views winds its way around the island, attracting many tourists.

Dyrön also has a very popular bookable sauna, in 2008 it was named Sweden’s finest electric heated sauna. In addition to bathing in the sauna, there are also two beaches with trampolines, bathing ladders and sandy shores, as well as an infinite number of rocky slopes and coves for those who wish to relax peacefully. The two beaches are located close to the two guest harbours – the North and South Harbour. They both have their own characters, complementing each other with a variety of services.

The large number of year-round residents means that the island also has a varied and viable business community and an active community association. This makes Dyrön an active island with lit-up windows even when the winter storm enters.
